The skateboard craze was at its peak when I took this picture, and when Meanwhile Gardens was set up as community garden in 1976 on former derelict land beside the Grand Union Canal part of the site was allocated as a skate bowl, making it one of London's oldest still in use.
 
In the background you can see a part of the elevated section of the Westway, which devastated a large swathe of land through the north of Notting Hill, where some of the poorest areas of London were demolished along its path with little concern for the local community, leaving 23 acres of derelict land.

It is no coincidence that Grenfell Tower is only a short distance from the Westway; the lack of concern for the local community and failure to listen to their grievances continues.
