On The Mall people were listening to speakers
and Trafalgar Square was getting full of people
some sitting around Nelson's column: 'Burning Earth'
There was a children's area
Money and nature on the scales
'Reflect - Rebel- Restore'
'Activism is Hope'
'Everything will change
'Humility - Empathy - Frugality'
A bee with blue paint on its wings crawls over a woman's hand
'This is the End' says the washing line
'Change Is Now'
Santa and Jesus figure on Whitehall
and people are still blocking the road close to Downing St
calling for a Citizens' Assembly
'Dear Boris, We'd bee Egg-Static top meet with you - No Eggs Here...'
'No Law, No Decision That Harms our Children'
People were dancing
and a man was providing the music
and they shouted 'Extinction!' 'Rebellion!'
A large crowd came dancing along the street towards the road block
with drummers
and streamers
'Reduce Consumption Increase Happiness'
Then a large group of police marched up and started pulling down the
banners
and destroyting the gazebos that had been giving free food
A cordon kept people at bay while other officers took them down'
and piled the remains in heaps. It had begun to pour with rain
XR's non-violent principles meant that nobody tried to stop the police
destroying property
they just moved a little down the road and danced in the heavy rain
that was now falling
to a sound system under and umbrella.
On Horse Guards Road the police were also starting to clear people
but so far the campers and services at Broad Sanctuary were still
in place, and a pedal-powered sound system
was still letting a group entertain the rebels
and under the gazebos they were still giving out food
I met a large group of protester marching towards Victoria St on Marsham
St
speaking and chanting
'One Earth One Chance'
and at the Home Office people were still speaking to a crowd, though smaller
than before
