The march reaches the top of Whitehall
and goes on to Trafalgar Square
where some climbed onto the plinth around Nelson's column
and on to the lions
More marchers arrived from UCU and other London universities with
a 'Climate Change Class War' banner
as well as the UCL one
and a man with a red wig and a gas mask and everyone went back down
Whitehall to Parliament Square
They moved through Parliament Square again and up Broad Sanctuary
and as they passed Westminster Abbey someone at the front of the march
held up a smoke flare
The marchers stopped outside the Department for Business, Energy and
Industrial Strategy - BEIS. Some went
into the area behind the wall there and were threatened with arrest,
but I think the police then walked away
and the marchers left and made their way back to Parliament Square
Some gathered around a PA system at the back of the square, surrounding
it tightly to protect it from police
and then there was music and dancing
'This World is TOO Young to DIE'
At the front of the square people were trying to block the road and
police dragged one young woman off the road
and onto the pavement
but she returned and faced them
telling them they should be protesting to get action on the climate
too. At least one other person was arrested
The protest was continuing but I was getting tired and went home.
