Many hold the Tamil Tigers flag or wear a scarf calling for a Tamil state

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) fought for an independent Tamil
state
The Sri Lankan Civil War from 1983- 2009 ended in the defeat of the LTTE.
Velupillai Prabhakaran, their founder was killed in May 2009 and his
successor was arrested in August 2009.
The LTTE was proscribed in the UK under the Terrorism Act in 2001 and displaying
the flag is still
possibly a terrorist offence in the UK, but the police were clearly ignoring
while I was present.
