High Tor
St John the Baptist's was built in 1897 for Mrs Louisa Sophia Harris,
designed by Guy Dawber, now looked after by the Friends of Friendless Churches
and only open on heritage days. There is a spring feeding the trough and
the chapel appears built into the rocks.

from the main road a footbridge goes across the River Derwent
It leads to a path up High Tor. On the hilltop above is Riber Castle,
built by by the industrialist John Smedley
in 1862 as his home and known as 'Smedley's Folly'.
On the way up High Tor there were views through the trees to Matlock
