March against closing community centres

The protest is backed by various local groups
including Unite community
As well as families and children who use the community centres at
Stockwell and Kennington Park
The Portuguese Community who live in Stockwell support the centre
Some banners say that Hyde is a Housing Association not a building
company, but surely
the real question is why Lambeth Council are not supporting the community
centres in Lambeth
and why are they closing libraries, demolishing social housing and
more. That this protest was
called by the Labour Party seems ridiculous hypocrisy. Labour should
be supporting community centres
supporting libraries and other facilities for local people - not closing
them down, and certainly not
supporting useless vanity projects such as the Garden Bridge.
The £20m they are giving to the Garden Bridge could fund community
centres that are under threat
So groups like 'Save our Stockwell Centre' should be sticking it to
Lambeth Labour, not
marching with them. Telling their councillors to do the job they are
elected to do
for the local population.
