Craven Arms - Ludlow

Shropshire, Wed 17 Aug 2016

There are many of these interesting carvings in the chancel of St Laurence's Church, some rather more pious

than those misericords I chose to photograph

 and various interesting monuments

 Another misericord

Dame Mary Eure was 55 when she died in 1612

The Carrillon - who needs bell-ringers?

. Organists beware. Don't touch the organ. Best if you don't play it

It was time to try the Joules'a Brewery Beers

Slumbering Monk is a different and interesting dark ale, and, as the name suggests, rahter potent.

Joule's is a new brewery and began seeling its beer in 2010. Bass closed the original brewery in 1974
- and its take over of this pub was locally controversial..
Francis Joule opened his brewery in Stone in 1780. Later it was managed by his grandson,
James Prescott Joule (1818-89) whose name is still used as the SI unit of energy.

St Laurences has an unusual and large porch

.     Broad St
