Congolese Election Protests Continue

Gt Portland St-Downing St, London. Wed 14 Dec 2011

Some were climbing up on the walls and holding flags and banners 'Kabila Get Out of Congo'

As well as posters against the rapes and killings

and declaring the Tshisekedi had been elected president

'Mr Cameron Mr Obama Mr Sarkozy Your Silence = Deaths'

A few fireworks were thrown at the police, one much closer than this totally overexposed my pictures. Police walked
along the protest with a megaophone, telling the protesters it was time to go home and that their protest was now illegal
as it was continuing after the agreed time. A bottle was thown and smashed on the road a couple of yards from me.
Although most of the protesters were still there, quite a stream of them was now leaving and I went with them towards
Trafalgar Square, taking pictures. Some were very suspicious of me as I had been standing with the police and they
thought I must be a police photographer.

At Trafalgar Square most of the Congolese seemed to be going to catch buses or to the Underground, and I
jumped on a bus to take me to the NUJ London Photographers branch Christmas party.
