Students March Against Cuts & Fees

Bloomsbury to Moorgate,London, Wednesday 9 Nov 2011

But eventually it moved on up Fetter Lane as planned

The Education Activist Network banner and some noisy chanting in Fetter Lane

Clare Solomon was one of those leading the chanting

It was impossible to understand why police attempted to stop the march at Holborn Circus

Every turning off the route had its barriers and riot police

The Stock Exchange with barriers, a line of police and police vans

Only a few hundred people had arrive at Moorgate, the rest held up by police on High Holborn, so I decided
to visit the Occupy camp at Finsbury Square, where a group was having its photograph taken. The people there
were very worried by the huge police presence, including a couple of people they thought were plain clothes
officers watching them, who moved off quickly when they saw I was about to photograph them. Some were
convinced that the site was about to be cleared by police, but I told them I thought it very unlikely given that
there were several thousand students around who would be angered by such a move. Police are much more
likely to arrive in the early hours when the City is more or less empty.

I decided to go home, and buses were going along Old St, so I took one. A journey that might normally
take 20 minutes took well over an hour and we passed roads that were still closed a couple of hours
after the students had left them.
