A Day Off - Canal Walk

Grand Union Canal: Wendover and Aylesbury. Mon 25 May, 2009

It was a long and tiring slog along the six miles of the Aylesbury arm - though it would have made a pleasant

enough walk had we started here fresh

There were very few boats moving - I think we saw only one as we reached the end of the arm

   Another of the herons

And another swan, guarding the junction with the main canal at Bulborne - but now it wasn't far to a canal-side pub

Though by now it was getting late and the ice-cream shop was closed

Now it was getting dark, and the last mile or so it was raining. though the canal path was sheltered by trees

Finally we got back to Tring, narrowly missing the hourly train to Clapham Junction.
We took the next train on a different route on which strictly our tickets were not valid - another of the
ridiculous anomalies of rail privatisation - but fortunately nobody noticed.
