London Loop

Bexley to Petts Wood, London

Monument to William Willett (1857 - 1915), whose lengthy campaign finally led to the adoption of Daylight Saving Time or Summer time, at first as a wartime economy measure in 1916, the year after he died. The text plays on 'Horas non numero nisi serenas." (I count only hours that are serene), an ancient tag supposedly discovered by Hazlitt on a sundial near Venice.
